General Notes:
“Descendants of Adam Boots (1733-1803)” (1966; 1977) [LDS flim #1036425] p. 403: marriage dates; “Descendants of Alexander Garringer” by Carol J. Anderson [2000]: born ‘Oct 1827, Fayette Co., OH’ but Barbara Carpenter’s data fails to have this Alexander, though she comment she ‘knew there was [one]’ — however the Anderson data give different marriage dates: to Phebe Betson ‘25 Jan 1848 at Howard Co., IN’; and to Rebecca Simmons ‘10 Oct 1849, Howard Co.’; Rick Hambrock “Descendants of Alexander Garringer” [Nov 2000] — 1900 Jay Co., IN census (Pike township) [E.D. 66; Sh. 6; line 84]: age 75 (born Jan 1825 @ OH) is an Alexander Garringer living with his 30-year-old daughter, Ida (born Apr 1870 @ IN): this Alexander?; from Jacki McDermott’s research [2004]: ‘Alexander (no positive proof whether he belongs to Alexander or to brother John, possibly a death record would tell us, descendants don't know his parents) born Oct 1825 (according to 1900 census of St. Clair County Mo Vol. 18, ed 149, sh 10, line 41, so that makes it look more like he is John’s child since Sarah was born in Aug of same year) He was probably born in Fayette County, Ohio but the 1900 census says Indiana (age 32 in 1860 census, Fillmore township, Iowa County, Iowa so that would make him born in 1828, so he could once again be Alexander’s child). Alex married Phoebe Betson on 10 October 1849, book C-1, page 87 and secondly to Rebecca Simons (family name was Simmons actually, because her brother’s descendants still live here in Iowa County, Iowa) CA p. 77 on January 25, 1854, both in Howard County Indiana. Alex died after 1910 in St. Clair County, Missouri. Alex missed the 1880 census in Ottawa County, KS (ed 219, sheet 90, line 40) because head of household comes up N.R. (for none recorded). I thought for a long time that meant his initials were N.R. The rest of the family is there with Rebecca. In 1870, Iowa County Iowa p. 174, 175, he was 43, making his birth year 1827. Caroline Shaper wrote to me in 1990 “I believe the Alexander of Alexander and Rebecca is Alexander’s son and I believe he was born in 1828. Since neither Alex or Rebecca could read/write the age confuses us. I believe the 1850 and 1860 censuses are more correct than 1880 and 1900; I also believe a deed in Delaware County, Indiana deed from Isaac to Alexander is between Alexander’s two sons (1849-when Alex was of age).” On 31, August 1852, Alex Garringer, Milton Hadley, and Charles Goodwine were appointed administrators of the estate of John Garringer. We know that this was not Alex, Sr., because his estate was probated on Jan 16, 1849. So, was Alex the son or nephew of John? This research was done by Dorothy Riker from Indianapolis, Indiana for us in 1984.’; Anna M. Bonner to L. Ellingham [6-I-2005]: vital data (b. ‘23 Jun 1827’ with marriage year & death data
