bullet  General Notes:

“Genealogies of the Kimble & Alt Families” (in Hardy Co., VA) by
H. A. Alt [1937]p. 39: ‘went to Indiana with his father about
1849’; 1850 Fayette Co., OH census (Marion township) p. 57: age
25; laborer — a William Martin, age 11, born in VA, is with
family; “Alt & Kimble Families” pp. 49-50: ‘Jacob Alt [son of
Michael & Eliz. (Light) Alt] went to Indiana about 1849’; 1860
Kosciusko Co., IN census (Seward township), [ll. 9-16], p. 289:
age 35, born in Virginia — present with the family is an Isaac
(I. or O.) Ault [Alt], 35, born in Indiana, and under this
listing, Wm. M. Ault [Alt], 2, born in Indiana; 2nd marriage, as
‘Jacob T. Alt’, Warsaw Community Public Library, note from
research librarian [24 May 2001]; “Combination Atlas-Map of
Koscuisko Co., IN” (Business Directories, Seward township) p.
129: as ‘Jacob T. Alt’, resident, Palestine (IN), farmer; native
of VA; settled in 1850 (in IN) — in “Palestine Cemetery
(Harrison township, Koscuisko Co., IN) Records” p. 81: there is
a Jacob Alt ‘1824-1913’ [accepted here] but see Clara Mae Ross’
“Jacob Alt” [2002] pp. 262-263, citing an interview in the
“Northern Indianian” [6-XII-1906] and posits a Kansas death
because the 82-year-old Jacob T. Ault describes his pioneer
life, but also is found with his daughter, Elizabeth’s family in
the 1900 Labette Co., KS census, though author admits she does
not know where he died — while the Ross book and the 1860 census
use the spelling ‘Ault’, elsewhere useage is predominantly ‘Alt’
and so is followed here; Priscilla Boswell to L. Ellingham
[e-mail 9-X-2002]: explores possibility Jacob T. Alt might have
died in KS and his remains been shipped to IN for burial; ‘when
the article was written [1906], it begins “Ault, Jacob T., now
of Oswego, KS, 82, writes about being an old settler of
Kosciusko County…’; “7-generation register report by Patricia
Kay Alt for her ancestry” [Feb 2003]: vital statistics; ‘lived
last years of his life with his daughter, Eliz. Windbigler, in
Altamont, KS’
