Ellingham [2-III-2004]: ‘[Levi M. Evans] was my great-grandfather. married to Emily Florence Evans’; [5-III-2004] — ‘My father was Jay Monroe Painter (1911-1987). His mother was Opal Marie Evans (she married Noble Painter), and her father was Levi Evans. I hand-copied Levi Evans obituary from a newspaper clipping that my grandparents had stored in their farmhouse near Redkey. This was about 1966 - I was 15 years old, and I did not (alas) note the name or date of the newspaper (it might not have been on the clipping) but my grandfather explained that this was my grandmother's father. — (obituary) Levi Evans, 60, a well known and highly respected farmer, living south of Redkey, choked to death whiile eathing his supper last Tuesday evening. He and his family were in the midst of the evening meal when he arose from the table saying that he had a piece of fried potato lodged in his windpipe, and stepped outside of the house to cough it out. A few moments later one of the family stepped to the door to learn how he was, found him laying on the porth in a strangling condition. He was assisted onto the couch, where he lived but a few minutes. His death is quite a shock to his many friends and his bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community. He leaves a wfe and five chidren: Mrs. Lillian Wilson, south of Dunkirk, Mrs. Noble Painter, south of Redkey, Mrs Goldie Cline, south of Albany, and Theodore and Suzie at home. Funeral services will be held Friday. As we go to press no definite arrangements have been made, but services will probably be held at the home in charge of Rev. Goldie (married Ray Cline) Thier children: Virginia, Lowell, Louise’ & ‘Finally, I have a death certificate that I believe to be for this Levi Evans; it is a facsimilie of the certificate: (Randolph County, Green Township [name of deceased is hard to read (old handwriting) but looks most look like] Lewis Eveant Evans. Born May 20, 1852; Died March 5, 1912; Married Name of wife: Florance Evans; Birthplace of deceased: Indiana Name of father: Garge Evans [I believe that should be George Washington Evans]; Birthplace of Father: Ohio; Maiden name of mother: Minerva Strong; Birthplace of mother: Ohio; Occupation: Farming; Name of Informant: Mrs. Florence Evans; Cause of death: Choked on a piece of fried potato. Was dead a few minutes before I arrived. Attack lasted about 20 minutes. Buried in Strong Cemetary, March 8, 1912’; “Descendants of Wm.
